Archos 80 G9 250GB - Turbo HDD Reviews
8 of 9 people found the following review helpful Much improved over the Archos 70 250G model, By This review is from: Archos 80 G9 250GB - Turbo HDD (Personal Computers) I bought this model from B&H due to its availability over amazon's. I love the 250 GB model as I prefer to have the capacity for all of my favorite applications, videos, and music on my tablets without having to switch the SD cards with the smaller capacity models. There are vast improvements over the Archos 70 250 G model which I also own. I would share some of the observations here :Initial Setup It is pretty easy to run the setup as it navigates you through the steps the first time we powered it on. I ran into issues of not being able to connect to my home Wifi when I went through the initial setup. After I downloaded the latest firmware updates to my desktop and did a manual upgrade to the Archos 80 G9, everything ran fine. Interestingly, I ran into the same networking issues with the Archos 70. The instruction for upgrading the firmware manually is available on the Archos support website. Access to the Android Market, built-in webcam (although 2 cams would've been nice), 250GB HD, upgrade to ICS, Micro USB port, Mini HDMI port, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth connectivity, 802.11N wifi, Skype and Google Voice (which I paired together after paying for Skype premium to turn into a full-featured phone!). All I gotta do now is get a little mobile hospot and I'll be able to talk, text and browse all I want for ~$50 a month! Before I bought this tablet, I did a lot of research to see if Archos' bugs and freezes were still commonplace. I get a freeze up sometimes, but not NEARLY as much as I did on my 5IT! The biggest drawback to this tablet is the fact that there's a separate DC outlet to charge it with (which is understandable, considering the Hard Drive inside; I've read that if you get one of the other models without the 250GB drive,... Has a lot of storage for video and audio files (250 gig). 2. Can play mp4 video files easily. 3. The installed music player is good even though it lacks equalizer. I have to install and run the free music equalizer from the market so it sounds better when connected to my receiver. 4. Screen resolution is very good especially when playing video. 5. Reading books in this device is okay for me. 6. Surfing the net is okay. The Bad: 1. The screen is too shiny/glossy. Too much reflection coming from it especially when working with it in a well lighted environment. 2. Battery doesn't last that long when playing movie (3-4 hours approximately or maybe less). Even 3. I have not found a way yet to download a file from the internet which is equivalent to the windows right-click then save method. |
